This online training course will support teachers in KS2 or English Support Leads to develop effective teaching of reading.

During this course, we will help you to:

• Discuss how learning to read is impacted by attitudes and behaviours as well as cognitive skills
• Identify and understand the key skills required for fluent reading in KS2, including prosody
• Explore a range of effective strategies for teaching fluency
• Develop a holistic approach to the teaching of all aspects of comprehension
• Explore practical and creative ways for improving comprehension
• Develop a consistent approach for teaching reading – clear routines, lesson structures, teaching sequence
• Explore a range of quality texts chosen to develop engagement, enjoyment and to broaden reading diet.

Suitable audience:  Teachers in KS2, English Subject Leads and members of SMT. This course is particularly suited to anyone who is new to the role of Subject Lead, new to teaching in KS2 or is looking for a new approach.
