This course will give practitioners ideas on how to plan a range of writing opportunities linked to a theme/topic and a high-quality picture book.

This course will provide:

• Guidance on how to use a quality text to provide children with purposeful and engaging opportunities to write
• Advice on how to use a range of strategies to improve oral re-telling and writing of simple narrative and non-fiction texts
• Strategies to encourage independent application of phonic skills in writing
• Ideas for purposeful writing opportunities in areas of continuous provision.

Suitable audience: Teachers in Reception. This course is particularly suited to ECTs, teachers new to Reception and teachers looking for some new ideas to refresh and revitalise their teaching of writing in Reception.
