This course will support you to plan and teach guided reading lessons and one-to-one reading sessions in KS1. It will also support teachers or teaching assistants providing intervention for reading in KS2 with individual children or groups of children.

The course will provide:

• A structured approach to planning, teaching and assessing guided reading lessons
• Advice on how to ensure children apply phonic knowledge and skills when reading decodable texts
• Advice on how to improve word reading skills
• Guidance on how to improve fluency (accuracy, automaticity, prosody)
• Support to ensure that children read for meaning and develop essential comprehension skills
• Guidance on how to provide effective support in one-to-one sessions and small-group interventions in KS1 or KS2.

Suitable audience: Teachers and Teaching Assistants in KS1 and KS2. This course is particularly suited to ECTs, teachers and TAs new to KS1 and teachers/TAs providing intervention for children in KS2.
