Collecting Evidence to Achieve ‘Expected’ in Writing in Year 2 (Zoom)

During this course we will help you to plan and teach effective writing sessions that will support your children to meet the age-related expectations for the end of Year 2 and achieve the non-statutory ‘Expected’ standard in writing at the end of KS1.

During this course, we will help you to:

  • Understand how the expectations for the end of KS1 align with the non-statutory ‘Expected’ standard
  • Choose quality texts and ‘real-life’ experiences that will motivate even the most reluctant writers
  • Select strategies and resources to overcome barriers e.g. lack of ‘staying power’, engagement and motivation
  • Identify, revisit and ‘re-teach’ essential skills in vocabulary, grammar and punctuation
  • Develop children’s transcription skills – identify and overcome barriers to success in spelling and handwriting
  • Develop children’s independent composition skills using a range of planning techniques
  • Plan and teach exciting and motivating ‘short bursts’ of writing designed to give opportunities to develop skills as well as providing a range of independent writing evidence covering fiction and non-fiction
  • Develop an effective plan to collect writing evidence for internal moderation.

Suitable audience: Teachers in Year 2. This course is particularly suited to ECTs, teachers new to Year 2 and teachers looking for some new ideas to ensure their students reach ‘Expected’ at the end of KS1.
