This online course will give practitioners guidance on how to plan a range of child-initiated independent writing opportunities and focused writing tasks linked to themes/topic and three linked high-quality picture books.

This course will provide:

• Guidance on how to use three quality texts to provide children with purposeful and engaging opportunities to write
• Advice on how to use a range of strategies to improve oral re-telling and writing of simple narrative and non-fiction texts
• A range of ready-made resources to use in the classroom
• Strategies to encourage independent application of phonic skills in writing
• Ideas for purposeful writing opportunities in areas of continuous provision including outdoor provision.

Suitable audience: Teachers in Reception. This course is particularly suited to ECTs, teachers new to Reception and teachers looking for some new ideas to refresh and revitalise their teaching of writing in Reception.
