Effective Transition from Reception to Year One (Zoom)
This online course will help you to develop Effective Transition from EYFS into Year One and ensure that all children make a Strong Start in Year One.
The course will provide a fully planned 3-week unit for Reception, using the text ‘A Little Bit Brave’ by Nicola Kinnear, and a fully planned 3-week unit for Year One, using the text ‘Dragons Don’t Share’ by Nicola Kinnear. The planning comes with lots of great ideas to continue developing communication and language and literacy at the end of EYFS and to revisit key skills at the beginning of Year One.
This course will provide guidance on how to:
- Create a seamless journey from EYFS to Year One through effective transition discussions and actions, including developing continuous provision in Year One
- Use engaging high-quality texts to provide exciting and purposeful reading and writing activities for the ‘post-profile’ end of EYFS and start of Year One
- Prioritise revisiting and embedding key skills from Reception at the beginning of Year One – rather than rushing onto Year One objectives too soon
- Ideas for purposeful writing opportunities in areas of continuous provision including in Year One.
Suitable audience: Teachers in Reception and Year One. This course is particularly suited to teachers looking to strengthen transition from EYFS to Year One.

This course made so much sense to me. I now have a much better plan on how to use my areas of continuous provision.
I can’t wait to get back into school and starting planning! I know my children are really going to benefit from the ideas I got today.
I think these new ideas are exactly what my class needs. Thank you for all the lovely resources as well.
