Phase 1 focuses on phoneme awareness and phonological development and provides an essential foundation for teaching phonics in EYFS.

This course is suitable for all Nursery and Reception Teachers, regardless of which Phonics Scheme is being used in your school. 

This course will provide:

• An opportunity for delegates to improve their subject knowledge and understanding of Phase 1
• Guidance on how to ensure that Phase 1 teaching occurs both before and during the acquisition of phonic knowledge
• An in-depth exploration of each of the seven Aspects of Phase 1
• Advice on how to identify and overcome potential barriers to children achieving age-related milestones
• An opportunity to look at a variety of resources to support phonemic awareness and phonological development.

Suitable audience: Teachers and Teaching Assistants in Nursery and Reception. This course is particularly suited to ECTs, teachers and TAs new to Nursery and Reception.
